Quit 'chur Whinin'

What more appropriate topic for my first official blog than a topic that is currently in every news room, interview, press release, and every household. The Presidential Election. My mother always said if you're going to do something, you might as well do it to the best of your ability. That includes beating a dead horse.

Before I begin, let me tell you something. I am not a vocal person about my political standing. I have no desire to argue with someone who blindly follows or of whom which there is no reasoning. I have my opinions, I do not share them unless asked (and will not share them here), but I also can back my opinions with mostly valid arguments. However, by no means am I anywhere near an expert when it comes to any type of politics.

I have found all to often this round of candidacy  talked about so terribly. FOX News has even said it's no longer about why you should vote for someone, but rather why you shouldn't vote for the other person. It started off as reality show joke... in all honestly, but now has turned into this shameless feud fueled by hatred and contempt.

Yet, I think the worse part is not the candidates. While yes, they are causing quite the uproar it is their following and those opposing that create the biggest disappointment - at least for myself. Obviously the mainstream media is biased. That is very apparent from the way they target Donald Trump and will kind of, not really show things about Hillary Clinton. (i.e. the WikiLeaks emails and scandals). Can you blame them? Well you can - their slogan is after all "We report, you decide", but they are still human and unfortunately no human has fully decrypted the code to conquering bias.

The problem however does not end there. Mainstream media is just that. People are fully capable (not to say they ever will) of doing their own research and drawing their own conclusions. That is part of the problem. The other part is this insane theory that people have got in their heads that if the candidates don't fit the personality of "someone I'd like to have a beer with" or "someone I could see myself having deep conversations with" then they aren't worthy of being president. [Full disclaimer: those are actual quotes that I pulled of a Facebook page earlier today.]

Okay now, let's get real. No one, you hear me, no one is worthy of being president. There is not a soul alive that could run this country exactly as it needs to be, not a human one at least. Second, I hear complaints of the reality show candidacy for president, well you all helped make it that way and those quotes I used above just prove it further. If you are choosing who should run your country based on likability and personality then you need to rethink every life decision you have ever made.

Both parties are immoral people who have committed crimes that would be federally punished if they were not famous, but unless we are planning to go into anarchy as a country or bring the apocalypse on us early we will have one as our Commander in Chief before years end. I don't have a great feeling about either of them, but I will vote based off what I believe will be best - big picture wise - for the U.S.. I think the worst part of this all is we sit here and argue for 'our candidate' based off what they say. You realize that politicians are paid to lie. Politicians are the world's biggest liars of all, but we are expected to make major decisions based off the lies we are told.

Sorry for the bunny trail, but just let that seep into the abyss. It makes your skin crawl doesn't it? It does mine. Now, I refuse to listen to what they argue about over these debates. While some may be worthwhile I'm looking back on their actions, their experience, and their capabilities. One of the biggest flaws in people's logic towards voting nowadays is their "rights" and "freedoms". So often I hear people say, "but *insert name here* wants to take away my rights to gay marriage" or "their going to oppress us as a minority" (be it women or others of a specific ethnicity). You want my answer? Probably not, but here it is anyways - Big FREAKIN' Whoop! Quit chur whining. You aren't going to have any of that when our country goes into a nuclear war and overthrown by a Communist country.

Quit looking at the small details. Are you safe? Are they going to uphold the original intent of the Constitution, Declaration of Independence, and the Bill of Rights that our country has been dependent on for 200+ years? Yes? or, you think so? Okay, that's who you vote for. Not someone who "makes you feel empowered." Please do us all a favor and get over yourself. As president they have a hard job. We as humans were never meant to play such an important role over people (check out 1 Samuel 8 for more), and they're doing what they can.

Think I'm wrong? Challenge me, let's talk. Just remember, this is a discussion not an argument.

If Only I Knew Where To Begin

I’ve struggled to start writing this blog for a number of reasons, most valid, but still not good enough to completely dismiss the idea altogether. I struggle as a writer because I know I’m not anywhere near the best, even in regards to my style of writing. I’m not Pulitzer prize material, but I can’t help the feeling that I need to write. Now, don’t mistake me for one of those people that carries a pen and paper everywhere just waiting for the second they get to write again. I’m not that way either. Yes, I carry around a notebook - and occasionally a good book for reading - but I don’t look to writing every free moment. This I could chalk up to the fact that I’m a new wife, young step-mom, working full-time, and attending an online university full-time. Even before all this though, I only wrote when I was in certain moods, and now that my career is mostly writing I rarely find myself in that mood.

But here I am, writing this. I don’t know what I was thinking, but it's too late to turn back now. Let me first start by quickly breaking some writers stereotypes so that you can better understand who I am.

We are not all creative.
Some writers are, and the greatest writers ever known were creative. C.S. Lewis is of great inspiration to me with his writing. Not at all because he made sense 100% of the time or that his grammar was perfectly, but because of the creativity that flowed through his writing. The analogies he drew to put heaven and other “unseeables” or “unknowables” into spectacular visual imagery that astounds me. That is the kind of creativity I long for, but the kind that I lack on every scale.

We live to write.
Did you hear me mention that I have a family, full-time job, and am a full-time student? Not me. I’m lucky if I get to do writing - outside of work - once a week.

We all want to be a critically acclaimed author.
I love books, but I have no desire to write a long book about one topic. Plus, you start getting all that fame and fortune you have to travel and do book signings. That is not for me, no thank you.

Now that we got that cleared up and out of the way….
I think another reason I have a tendency to avoid writing is because I feel as if all the topics I want to write about already have a library full - hence the reason my blog is called “To Beat A Dead Horse” - and, well, the other topics I’m not knowledgeable enough to write about.

More than anything, I am a Christian, and I truly believe that my words have the power to speak life and death (Proverbs 18:21). All my life I was taught that, and I don’t doubt it one bit, I have seen miraculous things come about because someone spoke with the power of Christ over another. This, however, has also made me more timid and attentive to what I say. Not because I am shy, but because I don’t want to say or do the wrong things that could lead people astray.

So, as I begin here and write about whatever I may, I ask that you are patient with me, but also challenge me. I don’t want to be right all the time, or even most of the time. I love to hear others thoughts and standings on situations, but do keep it appropriate, and I dare say professional. This is not here for a war to be waged or hatred to be spewn.

I welcome you and look forward to what the future holds. Thank you for embarking on this journey with me.
